Voice 1
Light is a gift from God.
Consider a candle flame; constantly
moving; changing shape; alive,
sometimes flickering; sometimes
burning bright; yet all the time shedding light.
As the flame moves so do the shadows;
strange shapes, sometimes dark and menacing. Yet if we move the candle they are
flooded with light and all is revealed.
Voice 2
God's light burns within each of us’
alive, sometimes flickering, sometimes burning bright; yet all the time
shedding light.
Inside all of us we have areas of
darkness; areas that only we know; areas that need to be flooded with God's
light; but we are scared’ or embarrassed, or guilty.
Almighty God, you know everything
about us, more than we know ourselves.
We can hide nothing from you, yet
there are parts of our lives that we try to keep dark and hidden
Fill us with your light we pray,
a light which may mean admitting
something to ourselves or others;
a light which may give us the courage
to deal with something we have been trying to avoid;
a light which may give us the
strength to deal with pain, discomfort or loss; whatever it may mean.
Fill us with your light we pray.

Voice 1
God's light burns within each of us,
alive, sometimes flickering, sometimes burning bright, yet all the time
shedding light.
In our world there are many areas of
darkness; people and places that need to be flooded with God's light, where
humankind is greedy, selfish, ignorant.
Almighty God, we carry your light
into the world; imperfect, frail, and uncertain as we may be.
Fill the world with your light we
pray;
a light which may mean admitting that
it will cost us to be a disciple;
a light which may give us the courage
to be your witness at home, or work or school;
a light which may give us the
strength to make a stand for what we know is right, whatever it may mean.
Help us to fill the world with your
light we pray.

In our world there are many areas of

Almighty God, you know all about us;
what we have done as stewards of the world you created; we can hide nothing
from you.
Fill the world with your light we
pray;
a light which may mean changing our
lifestyle, in favour of ethical or fairly traded goods;
a light which may give us the courage
to actively campaign for peace and justice in the world;
a light which may give us the
strength to challenge the things that we know are wrong, whatever it may mean.
Help us to fill the world with your
light we pray.

The light shines in the darkness
and the darkness cannot put it out
whatever it may mean.
Help us to fill the world with
your light.
This we pray in the name of Jesus
the light of the world,
who said, 'No follower of mine
shall walk in darkness;
they shall have the light of
life'.
