The Beacon Church Mission Statement

Declaration of Intent

We believe in the power and the presence of God. He believes in us, and as a Church we seek to respond through a living faith to his love in our lives. It is a relationship inaugurated by God in Christ through the Holy Spirit, appropriated by faith/baptism, nurtured and deepened through the ministry of word and sacrament, and expressed in a confession of one faith.

We see the Church as a community of faith, united together in the mission of building up the body of Christ within this community and the world. As Christians we seek to be a Beacon of light that all may see God and be drawn to Him.

We therefore now declare together our readiness to commit ourselves to be one in the Church of Christ, united in faith, communion, pastoral and mission. Such unity is the gift of God. With gratitude we have truly experienced this gift growing amongst us as expressed in the signing of a Covenant on the 6th March 1994.

In response to God’s call and in fruition of the Covenant, we, St. Chad’s Church of England and Pheasey Methodist Church, hereby publish our intent to constitute a Local Ecumenical Project, as understood by our denominations and interpreted in our constitution.

We commit ourselves to sharing together in the mission of Christ to the world, and within this context of being together in worship, study of the scriptures, evangelism and service.

We commit ourselves to sharing our resources in terms of people, money and buildings, and to deploying them in the best way in relation to the aspirations and needs of the people of Pheasey and Park Farm.

We commit ourselves to maintaining and developing relationships with our parent bodies and with the Staffordshire Plus Ecumenical Council. In the unity we seek we recognize that there will be a legitimate diversity within our respective traditions.

We pledge ourselves to this agreement for an initial period of seven years from the 19th June 1995.(This pledge is now extended for a further 7 years).
